Annual Median Income

Cint uses the median household income to provide a point of comparison between income-earners in each country.
Where the mean income average is the sum of all parts (or aggregate income) divided by the number of items (or income earners), the median average is the point that divides the population into two groups; half of the population makes an income below the median income amount, and half makes more than that amount. The median income is seen as a better indicator as it avoids the effect of dramatically high or low values.

Nice to Know about Canada

Canada is the second largest landmass after Russia with an area of 9,976,140 sq km! The country also has one of the lowest population densities on the globe at 3.3 people per square kilometer – however the density increases to double-digits in the provinces of Prince Edward Island (23.9%), Nova Scotia (17.6%), and particularly Ontario (13.8%) which is home to over 38% of the Canadian population.

The largest metropolises in Canada are Toronto with 5.377 million, Montreal with 3.75 million, and Vancouver with 2.197 million.

In recent decades, the provincial governments have made significant effort to deter smoking. Ontario is the third province to go so far as to launch a $50 billion lawsuit against tobacco companies for the impact smoking-related illnesses have had on the health care system. Approximately one quarter of adults smoke in Newfoundland, Quebec, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, however the number of smokers drops to 19.8% and 18.6% in populated provinces of Ontario and British Columbia, respectively.

The province of Quebec has its own official language act defining French as the only official language of the province. A population very proud of its culture, the Quebecois work hard to ensure their history and language is preserved and integrated into day-to-day correspondence. Bilingualism across the country is enforced under the Official Languages Act (1969). It is not uncommon for politicians to be fluent in English and French or improve their French after entering office.

It is important to note when running a survey in Canada that it should be provided in both English and French, particularly when sampling in Quebec.

Canada is the birthplace of many famous celebrities including Drake, Justin Bieber, Shania Twain, Celine Dion, Ryan Reynolds and Kim Cattrall, to name only a few. Canada is also the home of major global corporations like RIM, Bombardier and Harlequin Enterprises, the leading publisher of series romance and women’s fiction.
