Annual Median Income

Cint uses the median household income to provide a point of comparison between income-earners in each country.
Where the mean income average is the sum of all parts (or aggregate income) divided by the number of items (or income earners), the median average is the point that divides the population into two groups; half of the population makes an income below the median income amount, and half makes more than that amount. The median income is seen as a better indicator as it avoids the effect of dramatically high or low values.

You may want to keep these dates in mind as they might affect the response rate and your success in launching an online research study in Finland.

Nice to Know about Finland

The largest city in Finland is Helsinki, the greater metropolitan area of Helsinki has a population of over 1,000,000, almost one fifth of the country’s population! Although Finland has one of the lowest population densities in Europe (16 people per sq. km) the population is concentrated in the Etelä-Suomi, or the southern region. Ninety-two percent of the Finland population speaks Finnish while a small 6% are native speakers of Swedish. In the autonomous region of Åland, Swedish is the official language.

Not only has Finland been identified as one of the best places in the world to live, but in 1988, Finland was ranked as the best country for women to live in by Population Crisis Committee. The study was based on examination of the health, educational, economic and legal conditions that affect women’s lives. By the mid-1980s, Finnish women constituted about one-third of the parliament and held several ministerial positions.
A high quality of life is supported by high standards of education, social security and healthcare, all publicly financed.

Finns enjoy their vacation and value a work-life balance. Midsummer is celebrated in late June in observance of summer solstice. During the days leading up to Midsummer, nights are extremely short due to the country’s position by the Arctic Circle. In the months of July and August, Finns often take their vacation in the countryside. The Finnish Midsummer cottage life includes ritualistic bonfires, cookouts, saunas, socializing and drinking.

For much of its history, Finland relied on forestry and chemicals as its main exports, toward of the end of the 20th century there was a major shift that saw the Finnish industry dominated by electronics, engineering and manufacturing. Some notable Finnish companies – by no means an exhaustive list – operating internationally are Nokia, Stora Enso – the largest paper manufacturer in the world, Aker Finnyards – manufacturer of the world’s largest cruise ships, as well as Rovio Mobile – the video game developer responsible for app phenomenon and pop culture craze Angry Birds.
